French rain is just as wet as anywhere else

Arrived back in Mirepoix yesterday, having managed only one short and uninspiring ride in the UK in the intervening ten days. Something has happened to the usual summer weather though as today dawned damp and humid, with intermittent rain showers. After some fettling of the bikes, the sky brightened a bit and Nicholas (11) and I set off mid afternoon for a circuit round to Camon. This was chosen to give him a slightly more demanding climb than he is used to. He coped with that really well, but at the top the rain came down and the normally fun descent with spectacular views turned slippery and miserable. Soaked through, I called for Mrs M who collected Nick at Camon whilst I belted home - spurred on my the knowledge that special home-made scones were waiting for us on our return. If the weather is better tomorrow, my ride will be something more of the Latvian hooker variety - demanding, particularly on the ups and downs. And Fatrat if you are reading this, why not get your trusty steed out of the garage, dust it off and put in a few miles?. Then we can enter a Sportive together sometime!
